Chapter 2 : Opinions & Thoughts
Opinions
An opinion is the way you feel or think about something.
(Opini adalah cara untuk mengutarakan perasaan atau pendapat tentang sesuatu)
Our opinion about something or someone is based on our perspective.
(Pendapat kita tentang sesuatu atau seseorang berdasarkan sudut pandang kita)
Whenever we give our opinion, it’s important to give reasoning as well.
(Ketika kita memberikan sebuah pendapat, penting untuk memberikan alasannya juga)
Expression of Opinion
Opinion can be expressed in two ways:
(Opini dapat dinyatakan dalam dua bentuk: )
- Personal Point of View
- General Point of View
Personal Point of View Opinion
These expressions are used to show our personal view.
(Kata-kata ini digunakan untuk menunjukan opini pribadi kita sendiri)
Example (Contoh) :
- In my opinion …
- I think …
- Personaly, I think …
- In my experience ….
- I strongly believe that …
- I reckon …
General Point of View Opinion
These expressions are used to show general point of view.
(Kata-kata ini digunakan untuk menunjukan opini secara umum / luas)
Example:
- Most people …
- Almost everyone …
- Some people say that …
- Of course, many argue …
- Generally ….
- The majority …
Sentence Structure to Give Express Opinion
To make an opinion sentences, the structure is:
(Untuk membuat sebuah kalimat opini, strukturnya adalah: )
Subject + verb + object
For example, look at this table below!

Agreeing with an Opinion
Agreeing with an opinion mean we are agree to other people opinion.
(Menyetujui sebuah opini berarti kita setuju terhadap opini orang lain)
Expressions that can be used are:
(Ekspresi yang dapat digunakan adalah: )
- Of course
- This is absolutely right
- I agree
- I agree with this opinion
- I think so too
- Neither do I
Disagreeing with an Opinion
Disagreeing with an opinion mean we are disagree to other people opinion.
(Tidak setuju terhadap sebuah opini berarti kita tidak setuju terhadap opini orang lain)
Expressions that can be used are:
(Ekspresi yang dapat digunakan adalah: )
- I am sorry, I don’t agree with you
- I disagree with you
- I think you are wrong
- I am afraid I have to disagree with you
- It is not justified to say so
Examples of Opinion
Dimas: Mom, I need your suggestion about the clothes I would wear to Rama's birthday party tommorow.
Mom: What are the choices, Dimas:
Dimas: The blue clothes with long sleeves or the green one with short sleeves.
Mom: In my opinion, the green one is better, because you will more comfortable when wearing it.
Dimas: Okay, mom, I will wear the green clothes tommorow. Thank you, mom.
(Dimas: Ibu, aku perlu saranmu tentang baju yang akan kupakai ke pesta ulan tahun Rama besok.
Ibu: Apa saja pilihan bajunya, Dimas?
Dimas: Baju berwarna biru yang berlengan panjang dan baju berwarna hijau yang berlengan pendek.
Ibu: Menurut pendapat Ibu, sebaiknya kamu pakai baju yang berwarna hijau saja, karena akan terasa lebih nyaman saat dipakai.)
